AS 7720 Signalling Enclosures

The latest review of the AS 7720 Signalling Enclosures is now open for Public Consultation.

Contributions from designers, manufacturers, and installers of signalling enclosures with strong technical knowledge, hands‑on experience, or strategic insight are essential to ensure the standard is accurate, clear, and practically applicable. 

How this product helps the rail industry

Signalling systems form a critical component of a safe railway system. Signalling enclosures contain and protect safety critical electrical equipment used to enable the safe movement of rail traffic and the correct operation of level crossing equipment.

Signalling enclosures have a long service life, making the design, manufacture, and installation of enclosures an important consideration for rail projects. By harmonising the design and considering future requirements such as ETCS, RIMs can reduce manufacturing costs and lead times in signalling projects. 

A nationally harmonised approach also supports transferability of skills, and enables economies of scale for the purchase and installation of these items of infrastructure.

AS 7720 describes the requirements for the design, construction, commissioning, monitoring, maintenance and decommissioning of signalling equipment enclosures in Australian railway corridors. 

The Standard is intended to outline requirements that govern signalling equipment enclosures on a whole-of-life approach. 

How to contribute

AS 7720 Signalling Enclosures is available for public consultation for 60 days. All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments during this time.
