ARISO brings industry together for the Level Crossing Safety Handbook

ARISO is pleased to announce the commencement of a collaborative initiative with the National Level Crossing Safety Committee (NLCSC) to develop The Level Crossing Handbook.

The Handbook will form part of the broader suite of resources supporting education, awareness and enforcement activities under the NLCSC National Level Crossing Safety Strategy to support safer outcomes at level crossings across Australia.

Bringing together stakeholders from the road, rail and local government sectors, development of the Handbook as part of a collaborative initiative with the NLCSC.

By providing a shared reference point for infrastructure managers, local councils and jurisdictional managers, the Handbook will help promote greater consistency, clearer guidance and more coordinated approaches to managing shared risks at level crossing.

Designed for engineering, safety and operational disciplines, the Level Crossing Handbook will provide real-world guidance on best practice at the road-rail interface.

The Handbook will also serve as a valuable information resource for road and rail infrastructure managers, supporting informed decision-making and encouraging collaboration across sectors.

The document will consolidate and reference key standards relevant to level crossing design, including AS 1742 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and AS 7658 Level Crossings – Rail Industry Requirements.
