AS 7528 Interior Communications

The closing date for nominations – Tuesday 14 July 2026

The Australian Rail Industry Standards Organisation (ARISO) is seeking nominations from passenger rolling stock design engineers and manufacturers, as well as experts in the systems communication and human factors fields, to join a Development Group to review AS 7528 Interior Communications.

How will this help the rail industry?

AS 7528 Interior Communications provides the rail industry with a nationally consistent framework for the performance of critical communication systems within rolling stock. As communication technology continues to evolve, the standard ensures that passenger, crew and emergency communication systems remain reliable, interoperable and fit for purpose across Australia’s rail networks.

About

This Standard specifies the minimum functional and performance requirements for interior communication systems on passenger rolling stock. AS 7528 is undergoing a review its use cases, reference materials, accessibility requirements (DSAPT), and human factors considerations. The review will also consider the use of social media during normal, degraded and emergency operations, address cyber security implications and incorporate change requests.

AS 7528 is undergoing a targeted review and will address the following:

  • A review of the validity and currency of use cases.
  • A review of validity and currency of reference materials.
  • Consideration of broader use of social media in general, degraded and emergency situations with a focus on cyber security.
  • Consideration of human factors.
  • Review of DSAPT requirements and currency.
  • Formatting of the Standard to conform with current AS SG-006/SG-009 requirements.
