AS 7706 Interface with Points

Closing date for comments – Monday 13 July 2026

The latest review of the AS 7706 Interface with Points draft is now open for Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry

This Standard supports national rail reform by promoting safety, harmonisation, and innovation through the effective integration of new and modern systems to support existing rail infrastructure.

AS 7706 performance requirements assist infrastructure managers to better manage track stability throughout the asset lifecycle. By adopting this Standard, Rail Infrastructure Managers (RIM) could expect to see improvement in track performance and a reduction in incidents affecting the network, the environment and impacts to rolling stock for Rolling Stock Operators.

About

AS 7706 helps the rail industry by improving how risks associated with points and crossings systems are managed across Australia. The Standard aligns with existing RIM performance standards rather than replacing them, enabling local experience and operating practices to be retained while strengthening shared understanding across the industry.

The updated Standard strengthens requirements for points and crossing systems, with industry-led improvements covering system interfaces, safety-critical functions, track performance, and human factors across the full asset life cycle.
