AS 7529.4 Fire Safety – Infrastructure Vehicles
The closing date for comments – Monday 27 July 2026
The latest review of the AS 7529.4 Fire Safety – Infrastructure Vehicles draft is now open for Public Consultation.
How this product helps the rail industry
This Standard will help minimise risks a fire on infrastructure vehicles may pose to operators, train crew and other users.
This includes risks posed by new zero emissions technologies such as lithium–ion batteries, hydrogen and ammonia that are being rolled out in new rolling stock and retrofitted to existing ones.
About
This standard has been updated to include consideration of fire risks posed by emerging zero emissions technologies. It applies to both the design and construction of new infrastructure vehicles, and the maintenance, modification and refurbishment of existing infrastructure rolling stock.
The revision includes fire prevention, detection and suppression measures for hydrogen and battery systems. It also recognises zero emissions applications for traction on the rolling stock as well as auxiliaries, and introduces requirements for Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) and Temperature-Pressure Relief Devices (TPRDs) in hydrogen fuel systems.
