AS 7716 Signalling Testing Process

The closing date for comments – Tuesday 5 May 2026

The draft AS 7716 Signalling Testing Process is now open for  Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry

AS 7716 Signalling Testing Processes provides a detailed approach to signalling equipment testing that enables systems to transition to the installation and commissioning phase.

Signalling systems provide a critical function to enable the safe and efficient movement of passenger and freight trains across Australia’s railways. These systems also provide protection to rail safety workers when working on or near the railway.

Prior to the installation and commissioning of signalling systems the various signalling assets need to be thoroughly tested to ensure the system, as designed, provides a high level of safety.

About

This Standard outlines the requirements that describe types of testing and methods for testing typical signalling apparatus and systems that form part of the signalling systems, in Australian railway corridors.

The recent review includes updates that support the testing of digital train control systems, removes redundant information, and includes information on communications systems that interface with signalling systems.
