AS 7706 Interface with Points

The Australian Rail Industry Standards Organisation (ARISO) is seeking nominations from experts with experience in digital signalling systems, safety and regulatory frameworks, and track engineering, to join a Development Group to review AS 7706 Interface with Points.
How will this help the rail industry?
AS 7706 assists Rail Transport Operators (RTOs) in identifying the various interfaces associated with points and guidance for managing operational risks associated with the interfaces. The reliable and precise functioning of these interfaces are crucial for the rail industry and can prevent operational impacts such as delays and derailments. This Standard supports national rail reform by promoting safety, harmonisation, and innovation through the effective integration of new and modern systems to support existing rail infrastructure.
About
AS 7706 is applicable to interfaces with track, track support, personnel, traction power, and other rail systems and is designed to be adaptable to all Australian rail operations.
This review will address advances in new technologies such as digital signalling systems, current safety and regulatory frameworks, adoption of a risk-based approaches for managing interfaces, and incorporate lessons learnt from recent industry experience.
Time commitment
Development Group membership is voluntary and requires the support of your organisation to attend and contribute. A minimum of half a day per month time commitment will be required between February 2026 and June 2026.
