AS 7510.6 Braking Systems – Train
The closing date for comments – Monday 18 May 2026
The latest review of the AS 7510.6 Braking Systems – Train draft is now open for Public Consultation.
How this product helps the rail industry
This Standard contributes to the prevention of train runaways, collisions and derailments of railway rolling stock by providing clear requirements and recommendations that provide both safety, interoperability, and harmonisation for the Australian Railway Industry. It is an important part of Rail Infrastructure Managers’ (RIM) network approval of trains to run on their networks.
About
The ability for trains to be controlled relies heavily on the braking systems provided, not only as individual vehicles, but as a whole train. AS 7510.6 defines the minimum standards for brake performance, features and compatibility for the braking systems of trains.
This review includes reformatting of the Standard to conform with current AS SG-006 requirements as well as aligning with the formatting for AS 7510.2 Braking Systems Freight Vehicles to improve the logical sequencing of the technical requirements.
