The closing date for comments – Monday 11 May 2026

The latest review of the AS 7510.1 Braking Systems – Locomotive draft is now open for Public Consultation.

How this product helps the rail industry

One of the most important characteristics of railway operations is the ability for a train to be able to control its speed and stop as required. AS 7510.1 aims to ensure that locomotives (either as an individual unit or controlling a train) are able to operate safely in accordance with the network requirements.

The Standard defines requirements for the design, manufacture, testing and in-service maintenance of locomotive brake systems including independent brake, automatic air brake, ECP brake and park brake.

About

AS 7510.1 is applicable to locomotives that are new, substantially modified or that are to operate in a network in which they have not previously operated.

The review analysed the current requirements, the latest changes and advancements in locomotive braking systems, and applied learnings from accidents/incidents and align with the other ARISO braking Standards and Codes of Practice.
