How this product helps the rail industry
Brake blocks are a critical component of rolling stock safety systems. Effective and reliable brakes provide certainty to train crew when managing the speed of trains and ensuring they can be brought to a complete stop.
This Standard describes the requirements for the manufacture and testing of medium and high-friction composite brake blocks to be installed on locomotives and rolling stock.
About
The Standard has been updated to provide greater clarity on co-efficient of fraction requirements for different types of brake blocks. New tables have been provided for the testing of different types of brake blocks for freight and passenger vehicles, as well as locomotives. Updates have also been made to the testing methodologies along with minor updates across the document.
How to contribute
AS 7504.1 Brake Blocks is available for public consultation for 60 days. All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments during this time.
