How this product helps the rail industry
AS 7471 provides Rail Transport Operators (RTOs) with a risked based approach for the use of PPE to protect workers against injury or illness. It aims to harmonise PPE requirements across the rail industry and drive productivity and efficiencies.
It outlines the minimum requirements for the use of PPE when accessing a railway operating environment.

AS 7471 Australian Rail Personal Protective Equipment – Minimum Requirements has been reviewed and updated by an industry-led Development Group.
The review focused on ensuring PPE requirements remain current by considering how and where PPE is used across the rail environment. This included analysing work tasks to identify physical, chemical and biological hazards, assessing environmental conditions such as temperature, noise and weather, and evaluating PPE products and items that influence appropriate selection.
How to contribute
AS 7471 Personal Protective Equipment – Minimum Requirements is available for public consultation for 60 days. All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments during this time.
