The objectives of this Code of Practice (CoP) are to provide users with the information and guidance needed to develop their own procedures for the safe use of Road Rail Vehicles (RRVs), and to ensure that operators receive suitable and sufficient training and are assessed as competent. The CoP aims to ensure that all RRVs, including third‑party machines, are properly engineered and maintained to an appropriate standard, and that operators are competent to work on the Rail Infrastructure Manager’s network and to perform required operations safely. It also outlines key risk factors associated with RRV operations and identifies potential risk control measures. In addition, the CoP seeks to support a clear and standardised approach to RRV activities across Australia and New Zealand. By following this CoP, owners and users can strengthen and improve the overall management and operation of RRVs, reducing the likelihood of incidents.
